Maldonado's Antiques and Furnishings ~ Hometown Treasure Trove

Yesterday I decided to check out this antique shop that was just a couple minutes away from my apartment complex. I've been telling myself that I needed to explore more of my hometown. I'm coming to realize just how much of it I haven't even seen or heard about it yet--sure, I know my share, but there's been those "Are you kidding me? How did I not know of this??" more often lately. Definitely something I need to fix. Shortly after I lost my second job, I realized that the antique shop near my apartment actually had the same name as my boss, so I asked if it was hers. Turns out it is. So it's pretty cool that my old boss is so nearby! I'm pretty thrilled about that.

So yesterday I went to check out their shop, (my boss and her husband) Maldonado's Antiques and Furnishings, and to actually return a salad jar. (My boss makes a lovely jar salad). It was a cute, smallish place full of lovely findings. I was just tripping out over the lovely tables, boudoirs, mirrors--frames and knick knacks. I got to talk to Oscar (Mr. Maldonado) and to hear about how long he's been in business (30 years, although in different locations across the United States), and how many locals just come to give him stuff because they like love coming, and seeing what's new. He has a frame of a film cell of Marilyn Monroe on his shelf behind the register, and mutliple crosses decorating the wall. He said that many people give him crosses from down south, because they believe that they will protect the store from evil. I think that is just beautiful.

amarillo antiques  I failed to get a picture, but I had an adorable antique chair (in awesome condition) that had been repainted an off-white color, with travel-stamp themed upholstery put on layaway. In a month it'll be sitting in my corner. My very first antique! Granted, the things I've gotten from thrift stores might be antiques, I just don't know it. I'm so excited. I'm going to have to ask where they got the material. Too cute and perfect for my house theme. I just LOVE going to antique shops and thrift stores, garage sales. You never know what you're going to find!

Here are the pictures that I dd get while there. This next one I'd LOVE to have, but I'm not rolling in dough right now. Looking at it's condition though, it'd be worth every penny. I had one of those "secretly flip out" moments when I saw this one.

I love the color of the wood. I thought this set was interesting. I don't know anyone who golfs though....

Now tell me this doesn't look like the miniature that you had in your dollhouse as a kid.

Ooh, gorgeous color. Wouldn't mind having this one...display all my favorite books. Finally have some drawers to hid some things away in.

I'm rather ticked that this pic, among others, came out blurry once I downloaded them. Oscar told me this couch was going to be reupholstered, which kind of made me upset. I thought the original was lovely. But apparently plenty of people think it needs new material. The bastards.

And of course writing desks always fascinate me. I would love to have one that has all those old-fashioned secret compartments. So mysterious.

Another blurry one. Tsk. But this is cute, and I liked the semi-rustic design.

I was so excited by this one! When I asked about it, Oscar said that it wasn't wired for US records--it had been sent to Britian, and apparently they wire theirs differently. So Oscar plans to have it rewired, and to use the trumpet in his gazebo as a speaker. Which I think is a brilliant idea--aside from taking the piece apart.

This makes me think of old shows, and seeing these in the background.

Oh, pretty...didn't I see this on a mantelpiece in Beauty and the Beast? ;)

I admit I was mesmerized by this...the little girl's expression really caught my eye. Made me think of The Secret Garden, one of my favorite childhood movies. (The '94 version). Made me think of what Mary's child might have looked like, in the future.

This definitely looks like a piece from the old dollhouse....

This is Oscar's Coca-Cola collection. The lighting was so bright from outside that I couldn't get a clear picture.

Haha, some of these bottles I know are from my old job, that just shut down. I thought that was funny. And this little vanity is cute. Nice coloring, the black and brass.

amarillo antiques
Oh so pretty I really want it!

I really was excited about this. Apparently it was bought already, it's being saved for a kid's Christmas or birthday gift. Definitely an awesome choice! I hope to see more nerdy things there.

This was really tempting. But I decided no....

That's it of the photos I got. More than likely I'll go again at some point and take more pics of whatever is new. I'm so excited to have an antique shop that is so close to home! Might not be the best thing for my paycheck though....

Yesterday I went thirft store shopping with my mother and boy was I freakin' excited when she told em there was a whole shelf of Louis L'Amours in the book section. I had already bought my new shorts, but on hearing that I rushed back...and got every single one. 32 L'Amours for $20! Now tell me that isn't totally awesome!!
