Oh Mighty River: Mississippi

Being so young when I moved away to the South, I never got an impression of the Mississippi until last year, when we visited Hannibal, and we got to see a view of it from a park view. It was beautiful to finally get to really see it, and nicer still when this year we crossed the Centennial Bridge like I mentioned in my first road trip post recently, and got to see it up close and beautiful. Pelicans all around, the bright morning sun gleaming on everything. But my favorite, by just a bit, has to be when we were packing to leave LeClaire and I saw the sun just barely coming up, turning the river orange. I stood out in the cold to get as many pictures as I could, capturing different touches, different aspects. And to just soak in the natural balm that times like this provides. I hope at some time in my life, I can live alongside the river, and actually sit there as the sun comes up.

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Oh Mississippi

Seeing a morning like this makes you understand, yet again, why humanity is inspired to create beauty in art. This was one of the best blessings of the entire trip. I would be willing to put up with cramped sleep-deprived circumstances to be able to see this often.

  Oh might river
  The Mississippi
  Turbulent waters
  Lull me to sleep...

  Hope this touched you.

P.S. Next Friday I'll be sharing my interview with Rachel, (Hippie In Heels) so don't forget!
