Alex In Wanderland~A Traveler Interview

Hey guys! Today I have the interview with Alex from Alex In Wanderland. She has been in Hostelworld, Woman's Day, and Viator, among other places. She is in the top 50 Travel Blogs cited by The Expeditioner. But aside from all that, it is just so much FUN to read her posts! And her photography is amazing! Sharing tips and stories throughout her journeys, Alex shares incredible content. I was so eager to interview her. Lately she had been traveling through Peru, something I've had a lot of fun following. Here's an update post she posted on it.
Alex, on her latest trip to Mancora

• How did you begin traveling? What started the desire?

Sometimes I think I was born with itchy feet. I can't remember a time I wasn't obsessed with travel!

• Who has affected you most on your travels—a stranger? A friend?

I am continually inspired by my fellow world wanderers. Meeting kindred spirits on my first big trip abroad reassured me that this lifestyle was possible and inspired me to make it happen! Knowing there were others out there living my dream made it impossible for me to ignore it.

• What is the hardest aspect of traveling so often for you? How do you keep going?

The hardest part is being away from my friends and family. Goodbyes never get easier and I find it challenging to juggle my love of travel with my desire to be a part of my loved ones' lives.

• What do you hope to do in the near future?

Currently I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to land tickets to Tomorrowland, a huge festival in Europe. They are incredibly hard to get, but I'm dying to go. Wish me luck!

• Is there anything else you hope to achieve in your life? Become a professional photographer, etc.? A travel journalist? Have you thought of writing a memoir?

At the moment I am loving just blogging and seeing where that takes me. While I'm not going to say no to any opportunities, I'm not actively seeking a book deal or a TV contact! ;)

• I was surprised to learn that you had worked with Candace Rose on a blog called Lost Girls. How much fun was that? How did it get started? And what made you guys stop?

We were both editors on the women's travel collaborative site called Lost Girls. I really enjoyed working with the whole team of fabulous women there, but unfortunately the founders have put the site on pause for financial reasons.

• If you could give any advice for others trying to get out there, what would you say first?

My top travel advice is always this: Don't let fear stop you. The good judgement and wise intuition that keeps you safe at home will also guide you on your travels. And truly, the vast majority of people you meet are there to help you, not harm you.

Seahorses! Wow!

• Have you ever worked outside of the USA?

Yes! I've worked an photographer's assistant in the Cayman Islands and an underwater videographer in Thailand. I started a whole series on my blog to highlight amazing jobs my friends have worked abroad.

• You have awesome photography. Could you share any tips with us?

Shoot, shoot, and shoot! With digital there's no excuse not to take a million pictures. Practice might not make perfect, but it does make pretty good!

• What can we expect to see more of on your blog?

In addition to my usual first hand travel narratives, I'm working on bringing in more budget breakdowns, more travel book reviews, and more interviews with fellow travelers!

That was so much fun! I can't wait to see more on the blog. More adventures to come, I'm sure. Thanks Alex!

    1. Yep! She takes awesome photos. She has a link-pic on her blog showing what camera things she uses and everything. I have a few of them on my wish list. ;)
